Privacy Policy

Last updated: 27 July 2026

Making a will means trusting us with some of the most personal information you have. This policy explains what we collect, why, how long we keep it, and the rights you have over it. We have tried to keep it in plain English throughout.

1. Who we are

This website and the will services on it are operated by KingsGuard Legal Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales under company number 09906488, whose registered office is at 20-22 Wenlock Road, London, N1 7GU. We trade as Wills Trusts LPA (“we”, “us”). We are the data controller for the personal information described in this policy.

You can contact us about anything in this policy at james@willstrustslpa.co.uk, by post at The Manse, 33 New Road, Stourbridge, DY8 1PA, by phone on 0121 285 3282, or through our contact page.

2. What we collect

Information you give us. When you make a will or use our services, you provide your name, contact details, and date of birth. You also provide details about your family, your estate, and your wishes: who your beneficiaries, executors, and any guardians are, what you own, and how you want it distributed. If you buy will storage, we hold your signed will itself.

Information about other people. A will necessarily includes other people: your beneficiaries, executors, guardians, and witnesses. You provide their names and relationships to you. By entering their details you confirm you are entitled to share them with us for this purpose. We use this information only to prepare your documents and never contact those people for marketing.

Sensitive information. Occasionally the information involved in a will touches on health, for example where a beneficiary’s care needs shape your wishes. We treat this as special category data under UK data protection law and process it only as described in section 3.

Information collected automatically. Standard technical data when you use the site: IP address, browser type, and how you move through our pages. See section 8 on cookies.

Payment information. Card payments are processed by our payment provider. We never see or store your full card details.

3. Why we use it, and our legal grounds

We use your information to provide the service you have asked for: preparing your will, arranging the solicitor check, delivering your documents, and providing storage if you buy it. Our legal basis for this is the performance of our contract with you.

We keep records of transactions to meet our legal obligations, including tax and accounting law.

We use limited technical data to keep the site secure, prevent fraud, and understand how the site is used so we can improve it. Our legal basis is our legitimate interest in running a safe, working service, balanced against your rights.

Where the information involved includes special category data such as health context, we rely on your explicit consent gathered during the will-building process. Where relevant, we also rely on the establishment, exercise, or defence of legal claims, since a will exists to have legal effect.

We only send marketing if you have agreed to it, and every message includes a way to opt out.

4. Who we share it with

We share your information only with the service providers who make the service work: our hosting and security providers, our payment processor, our email provider, the qualified solicitor who checks your will, and, if you buy storage, our secure storage arrangements. Each acts under contract and only on our instructions.

We do not sell your information to anyone, and we do not share it with third parties for their own marketing.

We may disclose information where the law requires it, and after your death we may confirm or release your stored will to your executors or others we reasonably believe are entitled to it.

Your information is stored in the UK. If any provider processes data outside the UK, we ensure legally recognised safeguards are in place, and you can ask us for details.

5. How long we keep it

Your will-builder account and documents: until you close your account, plus a 30-day grace period so an accidental closure is recoverable and you can retrieve your documents. After 30 days, your account data and generated documents are permanently deleted.

Stored wills: for the life of your storage subscription, independently of your online account, so closing the account does not affect a will you are paying us to store. Because the whole purpose of will storage is long-term safekeeping, this can mean we hold your will for decades, potentially for your lifetime and until your estate is administered. That is the service working as intended, not an oversight.

Transaction and accounting records: six years, as tax law requires.

Technical and analytics data: short, defined periods measured in months, not years.

When information is no longer needed, we delete it securely.

6. Your rights

You have the right to access the personal information we hold about you, to have inaccurate information corrected, to have information erased, to restrict or object to processing, and to receive your information in a portable format. Where we rely on consent, you can withdraw it at any time.

One honest caveat: some rights have limits. If you ask us to erase everything while a storage contract is running, we cannot both delete your will and store it, so we will always explain what a request means in practice before acting.

To exercise any right, contact us at james@willstrustslpa.co.uk. We respond within one month.

A note on cancellation and refunds: your right to cancel a purchase is covered in our terms. Because your will is a personalised document, you are asked at checkout to consent to us starting work immediately and to acknowledge that this affects the usual cancellation right.

7. How we protect it

Your information is encrypted in transit, held on secured UK-based systems behind industry-standard protections, and accessible only to those who need it to deliver the service. No system is perfectly secure, but the sensitivity of what you trust us with is exactly why security decisions come first here.

8. Cookies

We use two kinds of cookies. Strictly necessary cookies keep the site working and secure, including the session and security cookies our infrastructure depends on. These do not need consent. Analytics cookies help us understand how the site is used. These are optional, load only if you accept them, and you can change your mind at any time through the cookie settings link in the footer. We do not use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.

9. Complaints

If you are unhappy with how we have handled your information, contact us first at james@willstrustslpa.co.uk and we will do our best to put it right, following our complaints process. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113.

10. Changes to this policy

We update this policy when our practices or the law change, and the date at the top always shows the current version. Significant changes will be flagged on the site.
